In the Wall Street Journal, Gillian Tan wrote an article titled News and Ads to Debut on Snapchat. In the article, Tan outlines the future possibility of Snapchat, an app meant for temporary 10 second pictures, may also begin to sell advertising space in order to begin gaining revenue for the first time in three years. This opportunity is sought after by different news corporations, food companies (like Taco Bell and GrubHub), and any other businesses hoping to gain the new advertising space. Tan says that food corporations and news companies have the most to gain though because this can bring in lots of potential food customers as well as possibly get the younger generation to begin paying attention to the news. This is related to the globalization of American Democracy because American ideals and morals can be relayed world wide through the use of such a deal. Also allowing political organizations to reach audiences outside their normal bounds. Then the users of snapchat, mostly consisting of the next generation, would have their open, impressionable minds exposed to the ideals of democracy which then contributes to the democratization that the United States prioritizes so much. This would fall into a subtler way to democratize because the billions of snapchat users would see the democratic ideals as more normal and bigger than they actually are. Not to mention good politics and government last a max of 10 seconds, much like a snapchat. (; e.g Ronald Reagan 1981-1989 |
